Conmebol released audios of the VAR and follows the controversy of the River-Palmeira

Mexico City /

Being a referee at CONMEBOL will never be easy. This Wednesday, the Confederation of South American Soccer made public the audios between the referee Leodán González and the referees of the cabin of the VAR, With Julio Buascuñán at the helm, during the first leg Semifinals between River Plate and Palmeiras and the controversy has begun.

Specifically released three plays that to fans and River Plate players didn’t like it and it was the play in the five minutes where a hand of a defense was requested after a deflection of Weverton, that covered a center of Matías Suárez. VAR and referee agreed on the decision.

“It’s not a blocking action because it has it resting on the floor,” the central judge said and the VAR has indicated that “the hand is out.”

The second audio released by Conmebol was a goal disallowed in Palmeiras in the 31st minute when the assistant referee signaled offside. The VAR observed a previous hand, so Gustavo Scarpa’s goal would have been canceled out anyway.

The last play that was announced was the expulsion of the flyer Jorge Carrascal. Referee González watched a kick from the Colombian footballer and did not hesitate to kick him out. “Correct decision. He confirmed the decision to you at number 8,” the central judge told the VAR.

River Plate will now look for a miracle in the return game trying to get one of those epic comebacks to turn Brazil 3-0 up, a mission that looks almost impossible.
