Mets and Tiles would be finalists in exchange for Lindor

the Mets and Tiles could be the most likely destinations in an exchange for the Puerto Rican torpedo boat in Cleveland, Francisco Lindor, according to a report by MLB Network correspondent and columnist for The Athletic, Ken Rosenthal.

Rosenthal compares the situation of the Tribe with which the Red Sox faced Mookie Betts last winter. The Mets, Tiles, Giants, and Twins appear willing to invest, but Rosenthal points out that this time it will be difficult to find a partner like the Reds had with the Dodgers for the transaction for Betts.

This winter’s free market features good torpedo boats – Marcus Semien, Didi Gregorius and Andrelton Simmons – and possible free agents from 2021-22 would include Lindor and compatriots Javier Báez and Carlos Correa, alongside Corey Seager and Trevor Story.

Of the four squads that Rosenthal indicated, the Mets and Tiles look like the best destinations for Lindor, because at the moment their focus on free agency is to strengthen other positions.

The Mets could have an advantage in completing a trade-off, because they would have several aspects to convince Lindor to sign a long-term extension. But the Tiles would also be strong candidates – although they already have Bo Bichette as a starting shortstop – if they fail to add the free agents they have been targeting.
