It may not be a huge surprise, given that apparently Switch owners are the most likely to own another console, but in 2020, Nintendo Switch far surpassed Xbox and PlayStation in the UK. I like… a lot a lot.
It’s tempting to see this as a big hit for Nintendo, and it is, but it’s also a big hit for us, the people who play games. More than ever, consoles are moving away from the idea of “rival” consoles and moving away from the idea that video games are for kids and nerds, with accessible family games, fitness games, and even games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons which apparently led some people to buy additional household switches. Of course, many Nintendo games are exclusive to Switch, and while Xbox and Sony have a good deal of exclusives, this is evident compared to Nintendo’s first-class exclusive offerings, which is probably why many people seem to have Switch. as well as another console.
With the addition of cheaper, hand-held Switch Lites for younger people and anyone who doesn’t care about playing TV (and some predictions about adding a Switch Pro in 2021), the Nintendo Switch family it’s not as big as Xbox or PlayStation, which makes its sales even more impressive. Of course, we’ll probably have to wait a little longer to learn more about the Switch Pro … unless yesterday’s fake leak of a Nintendo Direct this weekend turns out to be true. (He won’t).
