1 dead, another critically injured in vehicle shootings near Goleta | Local news

Emergency personnel responded Thursday afternoon after finding two people shot in a vehicle near Goleta.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Erik Raney of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies, county firefighters and AMR ambulances were dispatched shortly after 12:30 p.m. to the 600 block of Burtis Street, near Hollister Elementary School.

They found two victims in a vehicle, a recent Audi model sedan, Raney said.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Deputies set a perimeter around the site and looked for a single suspect who fled on foot, Raney said.

He added that the suspect, described as a dark-haired twenty-year-old white man, possibly wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt, is considered “armed and dangerous.”

According to reports, a helicopter of a sheriff and K-9 crews was also brought in to assist them in the search.

Meanwhile, a shelter order was being issued for residents south of Hollister Avenue, between Patterson Avenue and Turnpike Road.

The neighborhood involved goes back to the Atascadero stream and then to More Mesa, and deputies roamed the area looking for a suspect.

Raney reported the shooting by a minor who ran into the Hollister school office.

Additional details were not immediately available.
