Joe Scarborough to Capitol Hill Police: You opened the doors for them

Scarborough, a former Florida congressman, expressed his anger at the speed and ease of law enforcement who lost control of the siege.

“Trump supporters come in and open the doors for them,” Scarborough shouted, addressing the police force. “Open the doors for them and let them break the village house.”

The co-host of “Morning Joe” reported to police images of law enforcement officers punching rioters in the back and taking selfies with the rioters.

“They politely opened the door to the terrorists who had scribbled on the door,‘ they murdered the media, ’” he added.

Four people died during the chaos, according to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. A woman was shot by a U.S. Capitol police officer and three other people had medical emergencies.

Trump is to blame, Scarborough said. The crowd that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday was filled with enraged Trump supporters and conspiracy theorists whom the president fed disinformation about the election.
Scarborough, once a friend of Trump, was criticized for favoring Trump as a presidential candidate in 2016. The host of the morning show has become a staunch critic of the president and Republicans. In 2017, he announced he would leave the Republican Party. On Thursday he shared his anger over how the president provoked the violence.

“He’s an insurgent. There’s no question. He should be arrested today,” Scarborough said, referring to Trump’s actions that led to Wednesday’s violence. “He should be sent to prison today for insurrection against the United States of America.”

Scarborough questioned the Capitol police’s inaction.

“Even as a member of Congress, I had to have my ID to get in,” he said. “Why was Capitol Hill police no longer prepared for this? Why was the city of Washington, DC, no longer prepared for this?”

The host of the morning program also noted that this level of violence in official U.S. government buildings has not occurred since the 1812 war, when the British stormed Washington.
