In an unexpected twist, a law student’s trip to a supermarket ended with him and a friend receiving photos of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Law student David MacMillan and his friend were at a Giant Food supermarket in Washington DC to pick up some groceries when a pharmacist approached them to ask if they were interested in receiving the shots. Surprised, he agreed and said it was a “good way to start 2021”.
MacMillan posted a video on TikTok showing how he was getting the vaccine, and since then the clip has been widely shared on the platform. In the clip, he explained that several first aiders who had planned to receive the Modern vaccine had missed their appointments. As the vaccine could not be kept at room temperature for more than a few hours, it should be discarded, which is why the staff offered it.
“He turned to us and said,‘ Hey, I have two doses of the vaccine and I’ll have to throw them away if I don’t give them to someone. We close in 10 minutes. Do you want the Modern vaccine? “, MacMillan said according to a NY Post report.
Pfizer and Moderna coronavirus vaccines should be transported and stored at 70 and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that states provide vaccination to first aiders, essential workers and at-risk populations, including nursing homes.
“It’s important that when there is so much misinformation that swirls, people can see that this is good, this is positive. We should be excited to be able to deal with the pandemic, ”MacMillan told NBC News.
Speaking of the vaccine, he said he had a mild reaction to the vaccine (a headache), but that he generally felt great. He also said the CDC consults with him every day by text message to control symptoms.
In a statement a AFP, The supermarket said: “The Modern vaccine is valuable and can save lives, and we are happy not to have wasted it and to give a dose to every couple.”
However, they were not the only ones who were vaccinated while placing an order at the supermarket. Another Washington couple was also shot in another store in the city.
Franck Le Bousse, a 51-year-old DC resident, recently walked into a Safeway market one afternoon and suddenly learned that more than a dozen doses of the Modern vaccine would expire if no one took them before closing the pharmacy in less of an hour. .
“I was going to shop at the supermarket. . . . I have a vaccine! “wrote the architect after posting a photo.
In a Washington Post according to the report, the architect quickly called his wife Beth to come to the store as well to get a shot.
“I just grabbed my coat and ran to Safeway,” he told the newspaper. She arrived when her husband was shot in a separate room and recalled seeing him leave when he was inoculated. “He seemed to win the lottery,” he said.
