An officer in Staffordshire, central England, called the thieves “the most unfortunate thieves in the world” and compared them to the angry thieves in the movie “Home Alone”.
He said one of the two mistakenly sat on his phone and called 999, the UK emergency number, which allowed officers to hear the ongoing crime and finally listen to his colleagues arresting the duet.
“I think we just arrested the most unfortunate thieves in the world,” Chief Inspector John Owen wrote on Twitter.
“While committing a robbery, one of the thieves accidentally sat on his phone and dialed 999,” he wrote.
“We (received) a call detailing all their traps to the point of hearing our patrols arrive to stop them.”
In addition to facing injuries, Owen included a gif of the character “Home Alone” Marv, who is shown as a comic not suitable for the life of a crime in Macaulay Culkin’s Christmas movie.
In 2016, two equally unfortunate thieves kept a McDonald’s in France, only to discover that 11 armed members of an elite paramilitary force ate inside.
