The great Yankee Joe DiMaggio almost appeared in an episode of “Seinfeld.”
Joltin ‘Joe appeared prominently in an episode of Season Three in which Kramer saw him in a coffee shop and tried to interrupt DiMaggio’s concentration while intoxicating his donuts (DiMaggio himself did not appear in the episode).
According to Dr. Rock Positano, a longtime friend and author of “Dinner with DiMaggio,” DiMaggio’s family loved the episode and urged him to make a cameo in the series.
“Joe’s granddaughters were big fans of‘ Seinfeld ’and wanted him to do the cameo,” Positano told Page Six.
Positano also revealed that DiMaggio was, in fact, a “dunker” whose favorite “was a toasted pound cake only on a grill.”
In the end, the notoriously private sports hero ended up with the appearance, despite requests from his family.
“He thought it would have opened him up to criticism and invaded his privacy every time he walked into a coffee shop,” Positano explained.
But “Seinfeld” made a mistake.
“Joe was a dunker that was done with the right hand and not the left, as shown in the‘ Seinfeld scene, ’” Positano added. “I always ordered half a cup of decaffeinated with one side hot water and meticulously mixed the two like a chemist.”
