A new Nintendo Switch report is bad news for your portfolio. The game on Nintendo Switch is already more expensive than on PC, PlayStation and Xbox for several reasons. On the one hand, Nintendo eShop sales are not as plentiful or beneficial as sales on Steam or the PlayStation Store. Meanwhile, many of the best and best console games rarely receive significant discounts, especially if they are released by Nintendo. And finally, while not as common as before, the Nintendo Switch tax, which refers to a game having more money on Switch compared to other platforms, still exists. That said, it looks like the games on Switch and Switch Lite are about to become more expensive.
On Reddit, SMG Studio, the developer behind Death square, a popular standalone puzzle game: claims that the Nintendo eShop has a new rule that will prevent games from being under $ 1.99. Of course, free games will continue to be free, but the developer claims that the days of games on sale for $ 0.99 or less are over.
Now, contrary to this report, two games – Plague Road i HoPiko –– They are currently on sale for $ 0.99, making them the cheapest games on the platform right now. There are many other games for sale, but none of them breach the aforementioned $ 1.99 price tag.
On a surface level, this seems to dispel SMG Studio’s claim, but as the developer points out, its game was also recently $ 0.99, but that’s because they planned the sale in August. In other words, these two games can be on a similar ship. The fact that they are the only two games on sale for under $ 0.99 suggests that this is the case. There are still many other games listed for $ 0.99, but this is their normal price and again they are likely to have a big advantage.
That said, for now, grab it all with a grain of salt. Nothing here is official and so far Nintendo has not provided any comment or clarification. If that changes, we’ll be sure to update the story. Who knows, why would Nintendo do that? It could have something to do with the eShop’s best-selling page, which has been full of games falling to cheap prices, but for now, that’s just speculation.
