Pope says the “movement” of violence in the Capitol must be condemned

He Associated press reported on Saturday his comments made during an interview with Italian broadcaster Mediaset to be broadcast on Sunday.

In the interview, Francis says that even “in the most mature reality, there is always something that doesn’t work, people who take a path against the community, against democracy and against the common good,” AP reports.

“Thank God, that exploded,” Francis said, according to the news service. “That’s how it can be seen, that’s how it can be fixed.”

“This has to be condemned, this movement, regardless of the people involved,” Francis said.

World leaders heavy this week for the breach of the U.S. Capitol that left five dead, including a Capitol police officer and a 35-year-old woman who was shot. The Capitol was on the verge of a blockade when riot police stormed the Capitol, vandalizing offices and statues, as well as breaking windows.

Some protesters even entered the chambers of the House and Senate.

“What we witnessed was an assault on democracy by violent riots instigated by the current president and other politicians,” Trudeau said during a press conference.

“As shocking, deeply disturbing and downright sad as this event remains, we have also seen this week that democracy is resilient in America.”

Trump delivered a speech Wednesday at a rally of his supporters at the National Mall in which he encouraged his supporters to march on the Capitol and demand that Congress count only voters who were “legally provided.”

Following his statements, the crowd of riots advanced on Capitol Hill.
