Michael Cohen, who was for ten years responsible for the personal arrangements of U.S. President Donald Trump, announced last night that he will testify against the president and his family regarding unspecified “misconduct.”

“I have been asked and agreed to cooperate with various government agencies to testify about the misconduct of Trump and his family,” Cohen said via his Twitter account.

“I’m doing this in large part because Trump and his family have tried, and fortunately failed, to destroy U.S. democracy,” Cohen added, in connection with last Wednesday’s assault on the Capitol by supporters of the president, whom the Democratic opposition has accused of encouraging insurrection.

The 53-year-old disqualified lawyer was sentenced in 2018 to three years in prison in New York State after pleading guilty to several crimes, including perjury before the U.S. Congress and violating funding laws. campaigns.

The latter involved payments of “secret money” to adult film star Stormy Daniels, made by Cohen himself on behalf of Trump, according to the lawyer.

Cohen worked for Trump for more than a decade and was often described as Trump’s “plumber” until a rift broke out between them. The lawyer ended up making serious accusations against him in the courts and in Congress.

In May last year he was released from federal prison for house confinement, then returned to prison and re-released two weeks later. He is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
