According to a report, Pope Francis’ personal physician has died from complications of COVID-19.
Fabrizio Soccorsi, 78, was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome for a previous health problem on December 26, according to the Catholic News Agency.
The cause of his death, however, was the complication of the coronavirus, the media reported, citing the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano.
It is not clear when he last had direct contact with the pontiff.
Francis had caught Soccorsi with his personal doctor in 2015.
The pope had announced on Saturday that he planned to receive a shot against COVID-19 next week as part of a vaccination program at the Vatican.
“I think ethically everyone should get the vaccine,” the Pope said in an interview with Canale 5 television station. “It’s an ethical choice because you’re playing with your health, with your life, but you’re also playing with the lives of others ”.
