Mike Pence will be in charge of Joe Biden

Washington /

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence will attend the ceremony investiture of the president-elect Joe Biden, it was reported on Saturday, after outgoing President Donald Trump said he would not attend the event.

Relations between Trump and Pence have deteriorated since Vice President confirmed Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the November presidential election, in front of both Capitol Houses and after a day of violence in Washington.

A mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, for which they had to interrupt the sessions. Five people have died in these riots, of which the Republican president is accused of inciting with his statements.

On Saturday, multiple press reports have claimed that Pence decided to attend the investiture of Biden on January 20, citing high-level government officials.

The president-elect said Mike Pence was welcome at the ceremony, in addition to celebrating Trump announcing his absence at the event, in what would be his last message on Twitter before his account was deactivated.

Due to the pandemic, Biden’s takeover is planned in a reduced format.

Following the January 6 violence, the outgoing president could face a second impeachment process from Monday.

Donald Trump has already been the subject of a removal process in Congress, initiated by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in late 2019.

He was accused of pressuring Ukraine to launch a corruption investigation against his rival Biden, but was acquitted by the Republican-majority Senate in early 2020.
