BISMARCK, ND (AP) – North Dakota health officials said Sunday that the COVID-19 state update did not include any deaths for a second day in a row and showed another drop in hospitalizations.
The number of people in need of care in medical centers has decreased by 13 in the last two days, to 72. Currently, ten patients are being treated in intensive care units. The state hospital tracker reports that there are 34 staffed ICU beds and 371 inpatient beds available in North Dakota.
The death toll from coranvirus complications is 1,352. Data collected Saturday by researchers at Johns Hopkins University places North Dakota in sixth place per capita in the country, with approximately 178 deaths per 100,000 people.
Health officials said 93 of the 3,352 virus tests processed on the last day came back positive, 3.16% of them. A total of 94,716 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic.
The North Dakota state mask mandate is in effect until Jan. 18.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild to moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more serious illnesses, including pneumonia and death.
