Indie music star Ariel Pink has been dropped from her record label after attending President Trump’s rally, though she denied assaulting the Capitol and said she went to take a nap.
The Mexican Summer label made the announcement Friday amid reaction after the “Baby” boasted of supporting Trump at Wednesday’s rally in Washington, DC, which preceded the riots.
“Due to recent events, Mexican Summer and its staff have decided to end our working relationship with Ariel Rosenberg AKA Ariel Pink to move forward,” the The New York-based record label tweeted Friday.
The singer had openly anticipated a backlash, though he insisted he was asleep when the riots stormed the Capitol.
“I attended the rally on the white house lawn and went back to the hotel and took a nap. case closed, ”he said tweeted Thursday of his support for the rally alongside fellow Indian John Maus, who insisted he was against “violent confrontations or riots”.
“Save your friends, cancel me now and send me before they come for you, ”he tweeted about Thursday’s reaction, also saying: “Vote for Trump.”
The decision to abandon him solely because of his political leanings was quickly touted as “canceling culture” at its worst and as “textbook fanaticism.”
“He went to a rally for God’s sake,” one said replied the sympathizer on his old seal, while others noted that he had not been charged with anything illegal.
“Dropping a great artist to talk about his mind says more about your label than about the artist.” wrote a fan.
“You are crushing the open mind, restricting free thinkers and promoting a culture that inhibits creativity.”
Others even suggested it was “Clearly illegal.”
“Are you firing someone with different beliefs?” asked a commentator, suggesting he opened a “clear demand” for the Los Angeles-based singer.
