MIAMI – Alabama receiver Jaylen Waddle played Monday night against the national college football playoff championship against the state of Ohio, though it was expected to be limited, according to coach Nick Saban.
Waddle has been out since breaking his right ankle against Tennessee on Oct. 24.
Meanwhile, Ohio State was without initial defensive attack Tommy Togiai, defensive end Tyreke Smith and kicker Blake Haubeil.
A total of 13 players were listed on the Ohio State unavailability report, including two other defensive liners. Backup kicker Dominic DiMaccio is also unavailable.
In a message posted on Instagram, Haubeil said he tested positive for COVID-19 and that it was asymptomatic, but that he is extremely upset about losing the game.
“I’ve spent the last four months making sacrifices and haven’t seen family or friends at any time. Knowing I have so much more to give and not having a chance to do it tonight is one of the heartbreaking feelings I’ve had. never, ”he wrote.
Without Togiai, Jerron Cage was expected to have an extended playing time. Ty Hamilton backup is also not available. With Smith out, Tyler Friday would be the next player.
The Buckeyes turned to Jake Seibert to study freshman. Seibert made 13 extra point attempts and missed his only field goal attempt.
