“Tatito” Hernandez before possible project on abortion: “I find it difficult to be approved”

House Speaker Rafael “Tatito” Hernandez sees the possibility of approving a bill to regulate abortion in Puerto Rico as difficult and says the discussion “has already been overcome.”

“I find it very difficult. This issue had been overcome and the privacy of women must be respected. If the project comes, it will be given a course, but I find it difficult to approve it,” said the newly released chamber president in interview with radio station WIAC.

Hernández’s remarks came after the spokeswoman for the Dignity Project, Joanne Rodríguez Veve, voted in favor of the presidency of the popular José Luis Dalmau in the Senate and indicated that he had promised to consider a project to regulate abortion. .

In a post on his Facebook page, Rodriguez Veve listed the reasons why he voted in favor of the senator of the Democratic People’s Party (PPD), among which was: “Give way to measures to regulate abortion and protect the lives of both unborn children and pregnant mothers. “

In an interview with Julio Rivera Saniel on Radio Island 1320, the Dignity Project senator spoke about her conversation with the now Senate President and indicated that: “I asked her if she would be willing to push for legislation to protect the baby in the “Mother’s womb and regular abortion. The senator answered me that yes. I let her know that her answer had been definitive to give her the vote.”

For his part, the alternate spokesman for the New Progressive Party (PNP), Carmelo Ríos, also does not believe that there is room to revisit the issue of abortion in Puerto Rico.

“I am one of those who believe, in Roe v. Wade, because it leaves the decision to the woman about her body. I believe there will be no environment to revisit this issue. I do not see how the measure can be passed in the Senate. I am against, “he said in an interview with WIAC.
