Tim Cook scoffs at Wednesday’s announcement and demands responsibility for the siege of the Capitol

Apple CEO Tim Cook has mocked an announcement that came Wednesday and said everyone involved in the siege of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 should be “accountable.”

Apple’s chief executive sat down with “CBS This morning, host Gayle King will talk about an unspecified announcement from the company scheduled for January 13th. However, during the scheduled interview, King asked Cook about the Capitol storm.

“I think it’s key for people to be accountable,” Cook said. “That’s not something I should skate. It’s something we have to be very serious about and understand. And then we have to move on.”

When asked if President Donald Trump should be held accountable for his part in inciting the revolt, Cook did not mention the president by name, but said everyone involved should be held accountable.

“I think no one is above the law. I mean, this is a fantastic thing in our country and we are a country with a rule of law,” Cook said. “I think everyone involved has to take responsibility.”

Following the Capitol Hill attack, Apple took steps to remove the Conservative-leaning social media platform Parler from the App Store due to its failure to moderate content that may have incited violence.

Comments about the siege of the Capitol and President Trump were just small excerpts from a longer interview that “CBS This morning “will premiere Wednesday. The pre-scheduled interview was arranged for a different purpose, King noted. Cook agreed to comment on the Capitol Hill situation.

It’s unclear what the interview will be about, though King said it was a significant announcement from the company. He said it’s not a new product, but “something bigger and better” that is “very exciting”. Tuesday’s clip contained few clues about the ad, though the interview was conducted remotely with King at an Apple Store and Cook talking at Apple Park in Cupertino.

As for pending announcements, Apple has yet to release the app tracking transparency feature that it promised would arrive in early 2021. The fact that the announcement comes in the middle of CES 2021 may be remarkable, as Apple s has been dedicated to promoting its privacy policies during the annual technology showcase of the past.
