According to sources, Kyle Flood will join Steve Sarkisian’s staff in Texas as OL’s offensive coordinator / coach

Texas will hire Alabama assistant and former Rutgers coach Kyle Flood as the new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach led by Steve Sarkisian, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Flood has spent the past two seasons in Alabama, which won a national title Monday night against Ohio State. He worked alongside Sarkisian with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 and 2018 – Sarkisian was offensive coordinator and Flood coached the offensive line – before joining Nick Saban’s staff in Alabama.

Flood, 49, last held a coordinating role at Rutgers in 2009 and 2010. He later became Rutgers head coach, going from 27 to 24 in four seasons.

Horns 247 first reported that Texas was expected to hire Flood.

Sarkisian, Alabama’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons and winner of the Broyles 2020 award, is expected to continue to be Texas ’offensive player.

“I definitely want to be the player to call. I’ll be the player,” Sarkisian told the American-Statesman in Austin recently. “I made that mistake a year into my career [in 2015 at USC]. It will not happen again, not in the near future. But its reality is part of the reason [athletic director Chris Del Conte] and the people of Texas liked me for the work I did as a player. Suddenly, why would I give up one of the best shots I have? “

Sarkisian will also take Alabama offensive analyst AJ Milwee to Texas, where he will coach the quarterbacks, sources told ESPN. Milwee spent seven seasons as Akron’s offensive coordinator before coming to Alabama.

ESPN’s David Wilson contributed to this report.
