SAINT ANTHONY – The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has begun scheduling appointments for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Patients who received the first dose of the vaccine at noon Wednesday at the Alamodome are eligible, according to a press release.
Earlier, people who were already vaccinated were told to register online a week before the date of their second dose, but that is no longer the case, officials said.
Patients will receive a phone call from Metro Health to schedule their second dose. If a person missed the call and wants to schedule it, they can call 311 and select option 8 or email [email protected].
Currently, only front-line health workers and residents in long-term care centers (called phase 1A) plus people over the age of 65 or with a chronic illness that puts them at greater risk for serious COVID-19 disease (called phase 1B) are currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Phase 1B recipients include:
- People 65 years or older
- People aged 16 and over with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for serious COVID-19 virus diseases, such as, among others:
- Cancer
- Chronic kidney disease
- COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary heart disease, or cardiomyopathies
- Transplantation of solid organs
- Obesity and severe obesity (body mass index of 30 kg / m2 or higher)
- Pregnancy
- Sickle cell disease
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
As Bexar County continues to receive more vaccines, more appointments will be opened. Residents are asked to check daily for appointments available on the city website or by calling 311 and selecting option 8.
Currently, the opening hours of the Alamodome vaccine clinic are from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
