Marvel moves into another universe with “WandaVision”

This Friday the film universe expands its reach with “WandaVision,” the first of several series that Marvel Studios is scheduled to release in 2021.

Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will reprise their roles as “Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch-the Scarlet Witch” and “Vision” for the nine-episode series about an out-of-the-ordinary marriage trying to fit into a new neighborhood. The series, as advances have advanced, pays homage to a variety of “sitcoms” that have left a mark on television since the term was born around the 1950s.

“WandaVision,” as promised by its creators and producer Kevin Feige, oscillates between different eras and popular television series. To get the tone of each of these sitcoms – all very representative of their time – the whole team had the challenging task of adapting the skills of two extraordinary beings to the specific aesthetics of each of them. This, of course, requires the implementation of practical effects.

“I can’t move my nose, so we had to invent something that was appropriate for this period,” actress Elizabeth Olsen joked during a virtual press conference in response to one of our questions. “So our solution was [mover el dedo arriba y abajo]”, Explained the protagonist, who plays one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe.

Although his powers have been previously screened in films such as “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Avengers: Infinity War”, they had always required the help of special effects and CGI, so we wanted to ask -tell him about his experience using Wanda’s powers in ways he would never have imagined.

“It was fun to see how people who usually cause explosions, need things on fire and create smoke became puppeteers. Now they had to get some things to float in the air and use magnets for others to spin,” Olsen shared on the different methods that were used to adapt their powers to different eras, but especially in series referenced here as “Bewitched.”

“I’m used to everything taking shape with CGI, so it was a lot of fun to be able to work with practical effects, even though they’ve been silly things like standing still for a shot, making a change and then trying to remember how you were stop for the next one, ”he concluded.

The series “WandaVision” will premiere this Friday, January 15 on the Disney + platform, where the first two episodes will be available.
