The Fire Department Negotiator, along with Carolina municipal firefighters, controlled the fire that broke out after an explosion at the Curtis Instruments, Inc. factory premises on Four Wheel Street in the Savannah neighborhood Down , in the industrial area of this municipality.
The area commander of the Carolina Fire Department, Julio Gastón, told El Nou Dia that when firefighters showed up at the scene, they found a machine on fire. “We got to the scene, we removed all the personnel, we put them in a safe area, we made sure there were no personnel missing there and then the Negotiated Firefighters, along with the Carolina municipal firefighters, proceeded to extinguish the fire. “, he argued.
“Everything is fine, everything is under control. We are on site giving ventilation to remove all the smoke from the area,” Gastón added, noting that no injuries were reported from the incident. There were approximately 70 to 80 employees at the site.
Earlier, Officer José Catalano, from the Police Headquarters, indicated that only two people were affected: one was nervous and the other inhaled smoke.
Gastón indicated that it is still unknown what could have caused the explosion and the estimated losses. “It would be up to the administration of the same factory to let them know how much the losses would be, but we (state firefighters) also do a report on the incidence and are given an approximate of the losses.”
He noted that the area of the explosion was not very extensive, but it did cover an area with high-cost machines.
The incident was reported at about 1:39 pm and authorities were immediately mobilized.
