Delta Airlines is cracking down on passengers who were seen harassing Republican Senators Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham, as part of a wider range of restrictions.
On Thursday, Delta CEO Ed Bastian confirmed the passenger ban as part of an increase in security measures following last week’s violent protest at the U.S. Capitol. In separate viral videos, Delta passengers were seen harassing the two senators for protesting against President Trump.
According to Reuters, Delta’s decision was part of a broader security crackdown, which replaced 880 people on the “no fly list” “for not wearing masks” or for “unruly related behavior.” with the elections “.
However, some passengers claim they were expelled from a Delta flight for simply supporting President Trump. One man reportedly said he was forced to leave the plane to say “Trump 2020.”
Meanwhile, Delta said it is banning most passengers from checking in for firearms on flights to Washington DC. However, some authorized personnel, such as law enforcement, will be allowed to bill firearms.
“One thing we will do is we will not allow anyone to check a firearm at any of the Metro DC airports from this weekend and until next week,” Bastian said. “Unless you are authorized to enforce the law and are authorized to carry one.”
The CEO of Delta also noted that authorities are on high alert and continue to contact local and federal intelligence agencies. Meanwhile, American Airlines is also applying new restrictions in response to national unrest.
American Airlines said it will not serve alcoholic beverages on flights to and from airports near DC until Jan. 21. This decision came as thousands of national guards remain stationed in the country’s capital to support law enforcement. They plan to quell any attempt at violence before the opening ceremony.
