Lame & Watch
Nintendo has blocked videos from a modder who has successfully hacked his Game & Watch handheld device to allow him to play several other titles. There are two videos on YouTube that are not available after the publisher has claimed copyright to the channel in question.
This account belongs to the modder “Stacksmashing”, who bought the file Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Game and Clock device in November and immediately set to play with the $ 50 hand, experimenting to see what could be done with its rudimentary technology. Stacksmashing has launched several ROM-swapped titles, including the original NES edition of The legend of Zelda and of course the id software Doom.
But unfortunately, Nintendo has not been too kind to the Stacksmashing experiment and has issued copyright claims against its videos, which were confirmed by YouTube. Stacking up notes on Twitter that instead of being captured by an algorithm, their videos were pointed out by a Nintendo representative. Nintendo’s claims seem directed specifically at the use of game images, rather than making direct reference to hardware piracy.
Ultimately, it’s another day in the office for Nintendo, yes long has been very strict when it comes to any way to evade your games, hardware or software regions. So if you choose to play with your Game & Watch, don’t upload the results to YouTube … Or don’t play Nintendo games on YouTube? … or both? … or all three?
