ANAHEIM – The Angels have increased their capture depth by agreeing a one-year, $ 1.5 million deal with veteran Kurt Suzuki, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Friday. The Angels, however, have not made any official announcement.
Suzuki is dedicated to sharing its functions behind the plate with Max Stassi. Anthony Bemboom also remains on the list of 40 men in the depths of Suzuki and Stassi, which could prove important, as Stassi underwent left hip surgery in October. The low-cost deal also allows the angels to stay aggressive in their launch hunt.
Suzuki, 37, has local ties as he won the College World Series with Cal State Fullerton in 2004 and meets the new CEO Perry Minasian of his time alongside the Braves in 2018.
Suzuki played 33 games with the nationals in the reduced 2020 season, reaching .270 / .349 / .396 with two homers and 17 RBI in 33 games. He has remained a producer at the end of his career, as he also hit .264 / .324 / .486 with 17 home runs and 63 RBI in 85 games on 19, helping the Nationals win the U.S. title. World Series.
Suzuki, an All-Star with the 14-year-old twins, has played 14 seasons in the Major, hitting .259 / .316 / .392 with 133 homers and 669 RBI in 1,512 games. He is also considered the leader of the club and, with his experience, will also help the pitching staff.
