Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns announced Friday that he tested positive for coronavirus on Instagram.

The 25-year-old NBA player was especially frightened by his diagnosis as his mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, 59, died of complications from COVID-19 on April 13th.

“Before tonight’s game, I got another horrible call that I tested positive for COVID,” Towns wrote.

“I have a lot of people who, in my family and my mother’s family, have gotten COVID. I’m the one still looking for answers, trying to find ways to keep them healthy.

“It is a great responsibility for me to keep my family well informed and to make all the necessary moves to keep them alive,” he added.

Towns’ mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, died on April 13 at the age of 58 after being laid for 19 days in a ventilator.

He continued, “Thanks to the medical staff who are helping my mother. You are all true heroes! Praying for all of us in this difficult time.”

Towns then donated $ 100,000 to the Mayo Clinic to help test patients with COVID-19.
