Ryan Stamper of Ohio State leaves OSU for Urban Meyer staff at JAX

It has been everyone’s question and concern since former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer accepted the head coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Would Meyer take on any of the current OSU staff to build their efforts on NFL world domination at JAX?

Turns out Meyer doesn’t think this is in his best interest or for the state of Ohio, but he did fire a current staff member, Ryan Stamper. Stamper held the position as assistant director of player development at Columbus, but played for Meyer in Florida as a two-time captain, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008.

After a brief stint in football, Stamper was hired at Ohio State in 2012, where he has been ever since. It helps direct “real life Wednesdays” and other initiatives designed to help the athlete balance football and off-field life in a holistic way. His loss is greatly underestimated, but he seems to be the only personnel OSU suffered from Meyers ’foray into training. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news.

Stamper is a native of Jacksonville, so it’s also a chance to get home. It’s hard to blame a guy and we wish him the best.
