This week he was sure to be very busy in the Apple world, with a wave of announcements outside of CES earlier in the week followed by a string of Mac and iPhone-related rumors over the weekend.
This week’s new rumors included details on the updated MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro models, as well as some other new features, so be sure to read below to stay up to date.
Kuo: new MacBook Pro models with flat-edge design, MagSafe, no touch bars and more ports
This week, so-called analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released a significant report that shares several new details about next-generation MacBook Pro models that will arrive in the third quarter of this year.
According to Kuo, Apple will launch 14- and 16-inch silicon MacBook Pro models from Apple, a redesign with edges more similar to the iPhone 12, MagSafe’s return for charging, and more ports. Apple is also said to be getting rid of the controversial Touch Bar that has replaced traditional function keys in recent years.
BloombergMark Gurman also delved into the subject, corroborating many of the details shared by Kuo and noting that the new MacBook Pro models will also feature “brighter, more contrasting” screens and that the return of MagSafe will allow for faster charging.
Apple is developing a redesigned iMac with thinner bezels, Apple silicon chips
Along with the redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, Apple is also planning a redesign of its iMac range, according to BloombergMark Gurman.
Gurman says there will be two iMac models to replace the current sizes of 21.5 and 27 inches, and that they will feature a design similar to the Pro Display XDR, with thinner screen bezels around it (including long-lasting suppression) “chin” under the screen) and a flat back. The new iMacs will also be based on Apple’s silicon chips with more processing cores and graphics power than was seen in the initial batch of Mac M1 released in late 2020.
Apple is working on two new Mac Pro desktops, one of which will be reminiscent of the Power Mac G4 Cube
Also on the Mac front desk, Gurman says Apple is working on a couple of Mac Pro models. The former is a direct successor to the current model and is likely to continue to use Intel processors.
The second model is said to be less than half the size of the current Mac Pro and will feature a mostly aluminum exterior with a design that could “invoke nostalgia” for the Power Mac G4 Cube of yesteryear.
Apple said it would work on a lower-priced external monitor to make the Thunderbolt screen a success
With Apple’s Pro Display XDR priced at $ 5,000 (plus an additional $ 1,000 for the booth), many Apple users have demanded that Apple launch a new consumer-focused display, and Gurman says Apple also has one of these in progress.
Little is known about the new consumer display beyond the reduced specifications compared to the Pro Display XDR, but it would be Apple’s first consumer-focused display since the Thunderbolt display was discontinued in 2016.
Fingerprint sensor on Apple Testing screen for iPhone 13, folding iPhone also in the works
In a separate report, Gurman highlighted developments on the front of the iPhone, stating that Apple is considering adding a Touch ID sensor to this year’s iPhone screen, in addition to the TrueDepth Face ID sensor.
He also says Apple is working on foldable iPhones and has developed several prototypes of folding screens with electronics behind the screen and an invisible hinge. However, development is still in its early stages, so the launch of a folding iPhone is likely to be “years away,” if it ever occurs.

It is rumored that the new AirPods Pro and iPhone SE will be launched in April
Apple plans to launch second-generation AirPods Pro and a third-generation iPhone SE in April 2021, according to the Japanese blog Mac Otakara, citing information provided by Chinese sources in the supply chain.
The report states that the new AirPods Pro will include a slightly narrower charging box, but no further details were provided on either product.
BloombergMark Gurman has previously reported that Apple intends to make second-generation AirPods Pro more compact by removing the stem that protrudes from the bottom, but it’s unclear whether Apple will achieve this feat. Gurman said Apple had a design in testing with a more rounded shape that fills more of the ear, similar to Google’s Pixel Buds.
As for the iPhone SE, many rumors have suggested that a larger version of the device could be launched. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already said that Apple plans to launch an iPhone with LCD screen and a Touch ID power button in 2021, and maybe this device will be the new iPhone SE.
