Missouri will not get as many vaccines against COVID-19 as planned in the coming weeks

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (KY3) -Missouri is not getting as many vaccines against COVID-19 as was expected from Operation Warp Speed in the coming weeks.

State health leaders learned that Friday morning, just a day after announcing a new phase of Missouri’s vaccination plan.

“We thought we’d get more vaccine in our weekly assignments,” said Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. “But this morning we knew it would not happen. So right now we get about 70 to 80,000 shots a week. We thought we would get more than that, almost double that. “

Dr. Williams says the state will only get a slight increase in vaccines each week. Only about three percent of Missouri residents have received the vaccine so far, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control.
