A Starbucks official said that with great caution, and given the safety of partners and customers, the decision was made to close the stores.
Eyewitness News stopped by two Starbucks stores and both had posters posted in the window saying they were temporarily closed.
Operations are expected to resume on Monday.
So far no major protests or interruptions have been reported in New York.

Meanwhile, some state capitals are closed, fences are up and there are additional police in U.S. state houses, while authorities are preparing potentially violent demonstrations over the next few days.
Intensified security measures were intended to protect government seats from the kind of violence that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, when supporters of President Donald Trump swarmed the building while Congress certified the vote. of the Electoral College.
The FBI has warned of the potential for armed protests at the nation’s Capitol and the 50 State Capitol buildings that will begin this weekend.
Some messages on social media had been aimed at demonstrations on Sunday, although it was not clear how many people could show up.
