Former Oakland Athletics pitcher Dave Stewart has filed a $ 115 million bid to buy Oakland City’s stake in the Coliseum, with plans to develop the site, he told the San Francisco Chronicle.
With the Golden State Warriors –NBA– and the now Las Vegas Raiders –NFL– leaving the city in recent years, the Athletics are the last professional team to use the Colosseum. The team has taken the necessary steps to build a new baseball stadium at Howard Terminal, about seven miles from the city.
The A’s currently own the other half of the Colosseum.
In a Tweet Saturday night, Stewart, who grew up in the area, said doing “the right thing for our community” is the driving force behind the offer. He told the Chronicle that he has ideas to develop the area and potentially build a new stadium there if plans for Howard Terminal Stadium fail.
The house has ALWAYS been where my heart is. Oakland is who and why I am … An opportunity to do our community well, maintain our community, do BETTER for our community is the only driving force for me in this. #wishusluck #Godspeed https://t.co/zwy3ocDgsk
