– The BBC has apologized for the headline it published about the death of Phil Spector. When it learned of Spector’s death over the weekend, the news organization quickly published a headline that read, “The talented but flawed producer Phil Spector dies at age 81.” However, allegations soon surfaced, and critics accused the BBC of convicting Spector of murder, which was covered in sugar, in 2009. British pop star Lily Allen was among them. “The rotating eyes of every newspaper deliberately downplay Phil Spector as a killer in its headlines, so everyone (points out) while linking to his articles results in many clicks.” he tweeted. But she was far from alone. He London Economic completes other criticisms, including multiple references bearing the name of serial killer Fred West.
“Fred West was not a‘ talented builder ’, but defective,” says one tweet. The BBC editors soon agreed. “The breaking news about Phil Spector’s death was published with a headline that did not meet our editorial standards,” the statement says. “It changed in minutes and we also deleted a tweet that was automatically posted with the original title. Sorry for that mistake.” The new headline: “Pop producer jailed for murder dies at 81.” The polar opposite of the original BBC headline can be found in the Digital Fix: “Wool killer Jean Clarkson dies in prison,” it is said.
