4 wounded in a series of shootings in Monroe County | Poconos and Coal Region

COOLBAUGH TWP., Pa. – Police are investigating a series of shootings in a Poconos community on Monday evening.

Four people were injured after several shootings at various locations in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County.

“We’re still trying to fix exactly what we have. There are a lot of answers that I don’t know about or that I can’t give for investigative purposes right now,” said Chris Wagner, Pocono Mountain regional police chief. during a press conference on Monday night.

The first shots exploded just after five in the afternoon. Police received a report of several shots fired at a vehicle in the Route 196 area near the Tobyhanna Mall, according to a statement issued by Wagner.

“When officers began responding to this location, in a short succession, in a very short time, we started receiving other calls about additional shots in the township,” Wagner said.

While police were investigating, they heard rapid gunfire in the area and were called to 5330 Ledgewood Drive, where two victims were found. A 47-year-old woman had been shot in the back and a 19-year-old man had been shot in the arm, Wagner said. Both injuries are believed to have been caused by a high-speed round.

At the same time, police received another call and found a 20-year-old man in a vehicle near the intersection of Kings Way and Route 196, with what appeared to be a shot to the head, Wagner said.

Police then received an additional shipment from a vehicle accident at the intersection of Kings Way and Campbell Drive. There, they found a 20-year-old man inside the vehicle who had been shot in the leg at another Pocono Farms East development residence.

Wagner said the victims’ conditions are unknown, but he knows the woman who was shot in the back was taken to a trauma center, he said.

Wagner said police are interviewing people interested in the case and that authorities are requesting orders to allow them to search residences and vehicles. No charges have been filed yet, he said during the press conference.

“We’re looking for several people, the exact number I can’t give right now,” Wagner said.

There were several witnesses, who are also interviewed, he said.

Police are working on the premise that the shots are connected, according to the Monroe County Emergency Management Office.

Police asked the local community to protect themselves at their site and wait for elevated police activity in the area of ​​the Route 196 corridor, the Pocono Country Place development and the Pocono Farms East development.

According to the county Emergency Management Office, police withdrew the shelter recommendation at the site in the morning, saying the investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe the public is in imminent danger.
