The Bears have asked to speak with George Edwards about DC’s work

The Chicago Bears have a vacant defensive coordinator and are devoting time to examining all internal candidates and other candidates to replace Chuck Pagano, who retired this offseason.

Following a report the Bears requested to interview Indianapolis Colts defensive back Jonathan Gannon, Chicago also asked to speak with Dallas Cowboys defensive end George Edwards about opening his defensive coordinator. , according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

If the Bears are looking for experience in the defensive coordinator position, Edwards could be their type. Prior to serving as Dallas ’senior defensive assistant, Edwards was the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator during 2014-19. Previously, he was also the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills (2010-11) and the Washington Football Team (2003).

Interestingly, Edwards did an interview for the Bears coaching vacancy in 2018 before hiring Matt Nagy. So he’s someone who’s been on his radar.

There have been reports that the Bears were also considering some internal candidates for the defensive coordinator position, specifically defensive line coach Jay Rodgers and safety coach Sean Desai.
