Biden will not end the pandemic travel restrictions that Trump is lifting

WASHINGTON – The new White House press secretary, President-elect Joe Biden, says his administration has no intention of removing travel restrictions on coronavirus for Europe, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Brazil.

Jen Psaki’s message came Monday evening after the White House said President Donald Trump had lifted restrictions for those countries, starting Jan. 26.

Psaki then tweeted: “On the advice of our medical team, the Administration has no intention of lifting these restrictions on 1/26.”

He added: “In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures around international travel to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”

Trump imposed travel restrictions early in the pandemic to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the United States. They prevented most people without U.S. citizenship or residency from traveling to the United States from the affected regions.
