West Virginia became the final state to certify the results of its presidential election on Wednesday, when President Donald Trump formally declared the state eligible for five electoral votes. President-elect Joe Biden is expected to win 306 votes, while Trump is expected to win 232. He needs 270 electoral votes out of 538 to become president. Certificates from the states have come as Trump has unjustifiably called the election fraud and cast doubt on the outcome of the presidential race. Dozens of cases challenging the results have been dismissed at the state and federal levels across the country since the November election. Each state has a different process for certifying results, and some states certify their presidential candidates separately from state and local election results. The next important step in the election college process is to convene the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December, which is December 14th this year. Voters’ votes are then sent to the authorities. The Supreme Court ruled this summer that such laws punishing members of the Electoral College for violating the pledge to vote for the state’s popular vote winner are unconstitutional. .
