Here’s today’s COVID-19 update from the County Human Services and Health Agency with data through Jan. 18.

Order capacity and stay at the ICU:

  • The current availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds for the Southern California region is 0.0% and the state will update it daily.
  • He Regional order to stay at home it is in force and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for various sectors.
  • The order will last until the availability of the ICU in the region meets or exceeds 15%.

Community configuration outbreaks:

  • On January 18, seven new community outbreaks were confirmed: three in TK-12 school settings, two in business settings, one in a government setting, and one in a hotel / resort / spa.
  • No new outbreaks from the community were confirmed on January 17th.
  • Twelve community outbreaks were confirmed on January 16: five in nursery / preschool / daycare settings, two in business settings, two in governments, one in emergency services, one in health and one in a retail establishment.
  • Seven outbreaks in the community were confirmed on Jan. 15: three in business settings, two in emergency services, one in a residence and one in a restaurant.
  • In the last seven days (January 12-18), 47 outbreaks of the community were confirmed.
  • The number of community outbreaks stays above the trigger for seven or more days.
  • An outbreak of community environment is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one environment and in people from different households during the last 14 days.

Tests:

  • On January 18, 12,675 tests were reported in the county and the percentage of new positive cases was 20%.
  • The average percentage of 14-day positive cases is 12.1%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The average daily test for 7 days is 24,333.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should get tested. Health care workers and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are being severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or participated in holiday meetings are also urged.

Cases:

  • On January 18, 2,498 cases were reported in the county. The total for the region is 216,835.
  • 8,484 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,314 or 0.6% of all cases and 15.5% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On January 18, six new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the county. The total for the region is now 2,109.
  • Three women and three men died between December 28 and January 9.
  • Of the six new deaths reported, five people who died were 80 or older and one person was 70.
  • They all had underlying medical conditions.
  • On January 17, no deaths were reported at COVID-19.
  • On January 16, 38 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the county.
  • 13 women and 25 men died between December 29 and January 15.
  • Of the 38 new deaths reported, 14 people who died were 80 or older, 13 people were 70, five were 60 and six were 50.
  • 34 had underlying medical conditions and four had pending medical history.
  • On January 15, the county reported 28 new deaths from COVID-19.
  • Between 1 and 14 January, 14 women and 14 men died.
  • Of the 28 new deaths reported, 12 people who died were 80 or older, seven were 70, six were 60 and three were 50.
  • 27 had underlying medical conditions and one had a pending medical history.
