Kansas City, QB chief Patrick Mahomes, still in concussion protocol, returned to practice Friday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Patrick Mahomes was with the Kansas City Chiefs as they began their training session on Friday, the last before Sunday’s AFC championship game against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.

His participation on Friday would seem to put Muhammad on a path to play on Sunday. Head coach Andy Reid said Muhammad took all snapshots of practice on Wednesday and most of them on Thursday.

Muhammad was knocked out of last week’s divisional round victory against the Browns with symptoms of a concussion after a hard-fought tackle in a running play. He has been a member of the NFL concussion protocol.

Three other key Chiefs players who have been battling injuries were also in attendance for Friday’s practice start: wide receiver Sammy Watkins (calf), runner Clyde Edwards-Helaire (hip, ankle) and corner Bashaud Breeland (concussion, shoulder).

Coach Sean McDermott said the Bills were preparing to play Muhammad.

“I guess at the beginning of the week we weren’t entirely sure and we really won’t know,” McDermott said. “It will probably tend in that direction, so that’s what we’re anticipating.”
