Matta, who in 2018 unsuccessfully aspired to a seat in Congress for California, currently resides in Massachusetts, but will move to Washington DC to fulfill those duties.

“It will be a big asset to our agenda in DC,” said Hernandez Montañez, who has been in the U.S. capital since Tuesday.

Although Matta has not worked in Washington DC, Hernandez Montañez said she has “access to the political structure” for advising the Biden committee and after running for Congress.

Matta must give a maximum of 65 hours a month – the equivalent of a payment of at least $ 138 an hour – to attend to issues such as emergency fund disbursements, Supplemental Security Income ( SSI), Medicaid, Medicare, food assistance and incentives for the manufacturing industry.

Hernández Montañez said Matta will have to help get the Department of Housing and the Federal Agency for Emergency Management (FEMA) to remove administrative restrictions that “do not allow us to get the money to the citizens.”

Matta will not be linked to the debate for the state.

As a candidate for Congress, Matta – who sought to oust the leader of the Republican minority in the lower house, Kevin McCarthy – expressed support for the idea of ​​turning Puerto Rico into the 51st state in the United States.

“We need to find people who can help us. In the same way that the people have hired Republicans like Charlie Black,” said Hernandez Montañez, when asked to hire a consultant who promotes statehood on the island. .
