Today, Activision announced Pro Skater 1 + 2 by Tony Hawk developer Vicarious Visions had been absorbed by Blizzard to support future projects. A few hours later, we already know that one of these projects is one Devil II redo
Seconds Bloomberg, Vicarious Visions has supported Blizzard Team 3—who is also responsible for the next Devil IV—For several months developing a remake of the 2000s Devil II, by far, the most popular role-playing game in the franchise.
The remake was originally under the competition of Team 1, the group responsible for the very malignant Warcraft III: Reinforced, before the project was finally handed over to Team 3 sometime last year. Team 1 has since disbanded, and some employees moved to new jobs at Blizzard and the rest were let go.
Upon hearing the news this afternoon, social media was flooded with concern that Vicarious Visions would move away from its own projects to disappear under massive Blizzard initiatives such as World of Warcraft i Overwatch. It remains to be seen if this is the best use of studio talent after its success with Pro Skater by Tony Hawk, this is probably a better result than many had anticipated.
