If there is one thing they have in common every year, it is that there is not a single one in which different diets are not one of the most sought after things. Some are repeated over and over again, while new ones make their way from time to time. Not all of them are healthy or help us lose weight in the long run. Therefore, in Trendencias we have examined many of them during the last year and this is what we know about the 11 fad diets this year.
The DASH diet
This diet was originally created to treat patients with hypertension. The idea was not to follow it to lose weight, but they found that following this style of eating could help, in the long run, to achieve a healthier weight and maintain it. This diet consists of the consumption of vegetables, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy, large amounts of fiber, magnesium and calcium.
In addition, to follow this diet, the recommendation is not to consume added sugars as well as saturated fats and reduce salt intake. The DASH diet has been evaluated and shown scientific evidence of its effectiveness in both improving blood pressure and helping to lose weight. It is a form of food that, sustained over time and in the long run, helps us take care of both our health and our weight, without miracles.
Okinawan diet
The Okinawa diet is based on the style of eating followed on Okinawa Island, the place where the longest living people in the world live. Among other factors, it seems that their traditional way of eating could be one of the causes of this longevity. The basis of their diet is the consumption of vegetables – mainly green and yellow – derived from legumes, soy, good quality fats and low meat.

In addition to this, in this diet no ultraprocessing is consumed, added sugar, saturated fats and large amounts of sun are avoided. As with the Mediterranean diet, it’s important follow traditional eating patterns and not the ones that follow now, as it has become a bit westernized and now they consume less healthy foods.
The diet keto
If there’s one famous diet this year, it’s the keto diet. We’ve heard about it countless times. This is a diet that can be perfectly healthy, but we must keep in mind a number of things: to begin with, it is a diet recommended in a timely manner for overweight people, which does not suit everyone and it may not be for us. In addition, it is advisable to always follow it under the supervision of a nutritionist and doctor.
This is due to the fact that in the ketogenic diet carbohydrate consumption is reduced by up to 10%. The idea is that this way our body goes into ketosis, burning more fat. Yes, there is evidence that they work, but it can be difficult to follow. We need to keep in mind that many more foods than we believe carry carbohydrates. In addition, if we pass we can fall into ketoacidosis, which can be dangerous. Therefore, it is advisable to always be controlled by a professional.
intermittent fasting
Just like the keto diet, intermittent fasting has been gaining momentum in recent times. So much so that Elsa Pataky has confessed that both she and her husband follow her. More than a diet, it is a eating pattern. Well taken, it can be a perfectly healthy way of eating that not only helps us control our weight, but also brings other benefits to our health and metabolism.

There are several ways to make intermittent fasting, but the most common is 16/8. In this form all the calories of the day are consumed in eight hours and the others fast. 16. By talking about intermittent fasting some people understand that it is about not eating and others that it is about eating what we want in these eight hours. However, neither one nor the other.
The right thing to do is to calculate our daily calorie intake and complete it in those eight hours. In addition, although intermittent fasting does not prohibit food, for a healthy eating style, it is preferable to avoid overprocessing, added sugars and saturated fats and base our diet on vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds , dairy and whole grains.
dissociated diet
Another of the best known diets to be followed by celebrities like Kate Winslet is the dissociated diet. It is a diet created by Montignac in which foods are divided into groups based on their nutrients and very specific – and complex – rules are applied in which these foods can be consumed. One of the first problems with this diet is that there is no evidence to support it and it is simply based on the tests Montignac did with the family.
To begin with, we must keep in mind that it is a very difficult diet to follow because most foods have more than one nutrient, some of them incompatible with this diet. It doesn’t have to be unhealthy, but the reality is that it doesn’t teach us healthy eating habits in the long run and hasn’t shown evidence of really helping to manage weight.

Perricona diet
One of the things that happens with the most famous diets is that they are followed by well-known people and that is why they become popular. This is the case of the Perricone diet which, in our country, has become known for being the diet followed by Queen Letizia. It is a diet developed by dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, which sought to take care of the skin and at the same time could help to lose weight.
For this a three-day plan is followed with menus already closed or another 28-day plan in which we can choose what we eat, within certain – quite – limitations: foods must have omega 3, some fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains and spices. Also, refined flours, added sugars or alcohol cannot be consumed. But others such as oranges, watermelon, papaya, mango, bananas, grapes, carrots, pumpkin or potatoes are also banned.
It is a diet in which reduces calorie intake to 1,200 and in which what we eat is quite restricted – some things for no reason. Of course we can lose weight and it doesn’t have to be dangerous.
But it can happen that we do not consume the necessary nutrients or that such low calorie intake is not enough. It is also a diet that is difficult to maintain in the long term, which does not teach us new habits and has not shown evidence of helping our skin better.
Shirataki noodle diet
In the world of diets there are options for all tastes, but this is probably one of the most striking. The diet of shirataki noodles consists of a diet based on noodles (and noodles) that, in theory, will help us satiate more and eat less. It is a paste made with glucomannan that would retain water and have no calories. When consumed they swell in the stomach, satiating us more.

The reality is that while glucomannan has shown evidence to help you lose weight under very specific conditions, it is almost impossible to replicate by eating these noodles. Mainly because they should be the only thing we eat and, considering they don’t provide nutrients, we would risk malnutrition.
In addition, they are very boring because they do not taste like anything and are often accompanied by sauces that, in the end, are very high in calories. Not to mention that it is not sustainable in the long run as it is restrictive and tasteless. Not to mention the high price they have.
Sirtfood diet
This is the diet with which, in theory, the singer Adele has lost weight. According to the singer’s own coach, this style of eating would consume only 1,000 calories a day. This is too small an amount. In principle it has two phases: in the first only three green juices are consumed per day covering a total of 1,000 calories for seven days.
In the second phase we can already consume 1,500 calories and we can combine juices with solid foods. These juices could carry kale, turmeric, apple, citrus, walnuts, olive oil, parsley, coffee, red wine and chocolate. In any case, calorie consumption is extremely low and can lead to problems – not to mention the risk of doing this diet if we do sports -.
In addition, it does not teach us to eat healthy and, in terms of we leave it and return to normal eating, we will regain the lost weight. Also, alcohol consumption is a big no in any healthy diet.
Fruit diet
Fruit is an essential food in any healthy diet as it should be. If we are forbidden to eat fruit in our diet it is better not to trust us. This does not mean that it can be the only food we consume and this is precisely what the fruit diet proposes. We must keep in mind that although the fruit has very good nutrients and vitamins, it does not have them all.
Eating only fruit-based we run the risk of a deficiency of protein, calcium and fat, which can cause muscle loss, sarcopenia, kidney failure, difficulties in controlling our temperature, problems in the absorption of vitamins, vitamin B12 deficiency, etc. It is a very unsafe diet.
