Cooperstown will announce 2021 voting results for the Hall of Fame on Tuesday

As the Cooperstown Hall of Fame and the American Baseball Writers Association (BBWAA) announce the results of the 2021 vote, there is a growing perception that no candidate would receive 75% support from the ‘jury to enter the’ niche of American ball immortals.

Tim Mead, president of the Hall of Fame, will announce the voting results on a television program on Tuesday at 6:15 pm ET. If anyone gets the necessary votes, they will be honored at the exaltation ceremony on Sunday, July 25 at the Clark Sports Complex in Cooperstown, alongside last year’s promotion, consisting of Derek Jeter, Larry Walker, Ted Simmons and the late Marvin Miller, the first executive director of the Major League Players Association (MLBPA).

In addition, as part of the festivities, the winning narrators of the 2020 Ford C. Frick Prize (Ken Harrelson) and 2021 (A l’Michaels) and the winning writers of the Prize will be recognized on Saturday 24 JG Taylor Spink of 2020 (the late Nick Cafardo) and 2021 (Dick Kaegel).

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, last year’s Hall of Fame ceremonial was canceled, something that hadn’t happened in six decades. Cooperstown did not take oaths in 1950, 1958 and 1960 after the vote did not result in re-election, while no elections were held in 1940, 1941 and 1943. In 1942, Rogers Hornsby was elected but did not attend. have ceremony due to travel restrictions in the United States related to World War II.

To celebrate the date the star opener recorded his first major league victory, Tim Kurkjian reminds us of a funny anecdote from when Clemens struck out 20 Mariners.

The ballot that the Hall of Fame sent to BBWAA members with the right to vote last November was made up of Bobby Abreu, Barry Bonds, Mark Buehrle, AJ Burnett, Roger Clemens, Michael Cuddyer, Dan Haren, LaTroy Hawkins, Todd Helton, Tim Hudson, Torii Hunter, Andruw Jones, Jeff Kent, Andy Pettitte, Aramis Ramirez, Manny Ramirez, Scott Rolen, Curt Schilling, Gary Sheffield, Sammy Sosa, Nick Swisher, Shane Victorino, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner and Barry Zito .

Of the group, Buehrle, Burnett, Cuddyer, Haren, Hawkins, Hudson, Hunter, Aramis Ramirez, Swisher, Victorino and Zito are newcomers, while the rest returned, including Bonds, Clemens, Schilling and Sosa for a ninth and penultimate opportunity.

According to the compilation conducted by Ryan Thibodeaux annually, none of the candidates reaches the required 75%, when it was revealed how 176 writers voted, about 44% of the jury. Last year, 397 writers exercised their right to vote out of a total of 409 ballots sent by the Hall of Fame.

With the votes cast, the players with the most votes are Schilling (74.4%), Bonds (72.2%), Clemens (71.6%), Scott Rolen (62.5%) and Todd Helton (51.1%). None of the Latin American candidates come close to these percentages. Curazoleño Andruw Jones was scored in 40.9% of the ballots, followed by Venezuelan Omar Vizquel (40.3%), Dominicans Manny Ramírez (33.7%) and Sammy Sosa (22.2%), Venezuelan Bobby Abreu (11.9%) and the Quisqueian Aramis Ramírez. (0.6%).

Since the Hall of Fame was founded in 1936 (the first ceremony took place three years later), writers have not chosen a new immortal in eight trials. This happened in 1945, 1946, 1950, 1958, 1960, 1971, 1996 and 2013.

The last time without a new pick was the first year on the ballot for Bonds, Clemens, Schilling and Sosa, who are close to being placed on a strike to be struck by the BBWAA.
