The survey showed that the vast majority of independent practices actively seeking COVID-19 vaccines have not received any dose.
Medical practices lag behind in the push to vaccinate Americans against the COVID-19 coronavirus.
According to a statement from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), a survey found that 85 percent of responding independent practices and 45 percent of responding hospitals are actively seeking vaccine doses for patients. they have not received any so far.
Meanwhile, most practices that have obtained doses have reported that they have only received enough supply to vaccinate 1% or less of their patients, according to the statement.
“Current distribution efforts move patients away from the bonds of trust with their physicians and force them to pursue random vaccines,” says Halee Fischer-Wright, MD, MMM, FAAP, FACMPE, president and CEO of MGMA. “Medical practices have the capacity and strategic capacity to proactively administer the vaccine by identifying patients by age, pre-existing conditions, and other risk factors. Patients rely on their doctors to answer questions about vaccine safety and effectiveness. MGMA calls on the new administration to take advantage of the nation’s medical groups to expedite and streamline vaccine deployment. Without doctors at the forefront of this critical effort, patients will be left behind. ”
