Conor McGregor faces a strong break after the UFC 257 loss to Dustin Poirier on Saturday.
Former UFC champion McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) suffered a technical knockout defeat (the first of his career) in a rematch against Poirier (27-6 MMA, 20-6 UFC). Before the goal, Poirier damaged McGregor’s legs with a leg kick.
McGregor, 32, received a 180-day medical suspension as a result of a potential tibia / right fibula injury suffered during the fight. Like all medical suspensions, you will be eligible to return sooner, if your doctor clears your wounds.
Poirier, meanwhile, received a seven-day suspension for mandatory rest.
MMA Junkie obtained the full list of medical suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com for UFC 256, which took place this past Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
After the fight, McGregor was on crutches. He headed backstage and to the post-fight press conference, where he expressed the pain he felt.
“My leg is completely dead,” McGregor said. “Even though I felt like I was checking them out, it was just sinking into the muscle in the front of my leg and I was very committed. It was like American football in my dress at the time, so that’s what it is. “
UFC 257 competitors Andrew Sanchez and Matt Frevola also received 180-day suspensions. Sanchez, who lost by TKO to Makhmud Muradov on the main card, suffered possible nose and tibia / fibula injuries. In the showdown of outstanding preliminary cards, Frevola suffered a potential injury to his right hand in a unanimous decision defeat against Arman Tsarukyan.
