They carry out violent protests in rejection of the police who hit several people with their car

Tacoma – Protesters in Washington state lit a large bonfire, damaged buildings and marched with placards Sunday night in response to an incident the day before a police act charged against a crowd, leaving at least one two wounded.

Protesters gathered near the intersection in Tacoma where the act sped toward a group of pedestrians on Saturday night when it responded to a warning for a street race. The videos of the scene were widely shared on the internet and seemed to show the act going at least over one person.

The two injured went to hospitals with injuries that did not endanger their lives. One of the people was discharged, according to media reports.

Protesters gathered in a park on Sunday and marched through the city center, where windows were broken and messages were painted on various buildings. People placed objects to make a barricade on a street and lit a fire in a large garbage can. Protesters also passed by Pierce County Jail.

There were no reports of injuries after the protest, according to a police tweet, which indicated that the march had dispersed around 11:00 p.m.

The officer involved in Saturday’s incident is a 58-year-old man who has been in the department for 29 and a half years, according to Tacoma police. He was surrounded by a crowd after reaching the supposed street race. People started hitting the body of the car and the officer feared for his safety. The officer advanced through the crowd and then stopped and called for medical assistance, according to police.

The agent was on administrative leave with pay.

Protesters told the media they wanted the agent fired and criticized the city for what they considered a lack of transparency.

The Tacoma Police Community Advisory Committee set up a virtual meeting on Monday to address the incident.

The Pierce County Investigation Team was investigating the incident. The team consisted of agents from different parts of the county and community representatives, according to The Seattle Times.

When police watched the protest, three people appeared to climb onto the roof of a downtown building. Two were armed with a short gun and knives and were arrested. The third fled, according to police.

Tacoma is located about 48 miles south of Seattle.
