Durham, NC – A massive vaccination site against COVID-19 could soon be in Durham.
Durham Public Health Director Rodney Jenkins said the state of North Carolina and Fidelity are about to reach an agreement for a place in the county.
“We are thrilled with the potential to work together to expand our vaccination capacity here in Durham with the opening of our first mass vaccination site,” Jenkins said. “We are still working on details such as operating hours, appointment scheduling and other logistical considerations, but our goal is to open it to the public in the first weeks of February.”

The county said Tuesday that a massive site would have the capacity to vaccinate up to 17,000 people a week.
The existing vaccine site in Durham, Southern High School, has pre-appointment shots. Eligible people can call the appointment line at 919-560-HELP (919-560-4357) Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or schedule an appointment or sign up for the vaccine waiting list of the county online.
Mass vaccination sites have already been set up in other parts of the state, including Charlotte and Greenville.
