The Chancellor of Honduras mourns the death of Colombia’s defense minister

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The Minister of Foreign Relations of Honduras, Lisandro Rosales, regretted on Tuesday the death of the head of the Defense of Colombia, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, due to the covid-19, and described him as a man of “dialogue and consensus.”

“May Pau Descansi my good friend @CarlosHolmesTru, jurist, diplomat and above all a man of dialogue and consensus. Colombia loses a great son!”, Rosales stated in a message on Twitter.

The Colombian minister died today in Bogota at the age of 69 from complications in his health due to the coronavirus, Colombian President Iván Duque reported.

Trujillo, who was also chancellor in the first 15 months of Duke-led government, had tested positive for covid-19 on January 12 in Barranquilla, the day after he headed a security council in the neighboring city of Santa Marta.

That same day, he was placed in quarantine and, although he continued with his duties, he was admitted to a clinic in Barranquilla, from where on January 14 he was transferred to the Central Military Hospital of Bogotá, in the who died at 2 a.m. this Tuesday.

The Honduran chancellor had indicated on January 19 that he was “praying for a speedy recovery from good friend @CarlosHolmesTru “ after learning that he had tested positive for the disease.

“Colombians, with deep pain and sadness I have received the news of the death of our Defense Minister, Carlos Holmes Trujillo,” President Duc said in a country statement.

Trujillo also served as Minister of Education, Interior, Foreign Affairs and Defense in various governments.
