The United States on Wednesday joined the grief in Colombia over the departure of Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo and stressed the tragedy that the two countries have experienced due to the covid-19 pandemic.

“On behalf of the State Department, I offer my deepest condolences to the people and government of Colombia for the death of the Minister of Defense and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Holmes Trujillo García,” Antony wrote in a message. Blinken, United States Secretary of State.
“With his death, Colombia has lost a great patriot, leader and statesman. The United States has lost a close and allied friend. Minister Trujillo’s dedication to a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Colombia was evident to all who they worked with him during his more than four decades of public service, ”he added.
“He will be remembered for his tireless efforts to strengthen Colombia’s partnership with the United States in the service of a stable and democratic hemisphere,” he explained.

“The United States joins Colombia in mourning his death and in acknowledging the pain that so many families in our two countries have suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he lamented.
Antony Blinken is the new Secretary of State. He was recently nominated by President Joe Biden. The 58-year-old diplomat had the support of 78 percent of senators. And in this first week in office, this is the first message of great depth in his relationship with Colombia.
