Health workers trapped in the snow go from car to car to give vax to COVID

These health workers kept it fresh.

An Oregon medical team went into action after being trapped in a snowstorm with doses of COVID-19 vaccine that were about to expire and used the blows, going from car to car to inject other trapped drivers.

The “makeshift clinic” took place after 20 health workers were stopped in traffic on snow-covered Highway 199 near Hayes Hill, the Josephine County Department of Public Health said Tuesday.

The group had just finished a massive coronavirus vaccination event at a local institute and had six doses left to administer at the end of the day.

Other recipients of the shots had been identified, but “the snow meant those doses would not reach them before they expired,” the health department said on Facebook.

Not wanting them to leave the rubbish, staff walked from vehicle to vehicle offering people the chance to get the vaccine, with a county ambulance on hand for safety.

All six doses were administered, including an employee of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office who had arrived too late at the vaccination clinic and ended up getting stuck with the others.

Josephine County Public Health Director Mike Weber said it was “one of the funniest operations” he had been a part of.
