Chip Roy, Texas Republican Representative, calls on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to intervene and force Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to apologize for tweeting that Senator Ted Cruz “almost murdered me” during the Capitol Uprising .
Roy wrote Thursday in Pelosi, D-California, that the 31-year-old Democrat, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, must say he’s sorry.
“[S]accused Senator Ted Cruz, in essence, of attempted murder, “Roy wrote.
“As a member of this body who disagreed with the“ objections ”to voters and who has publicly expressed my concerns about the events leading up to January 6, it is totally unacceptable behavior for a member of Congress to do this kind of scrutinizing charge against another member of the House or Senate for simply participating in speeches and debates about voters as they interpreted the Constitution. “
Roy continued: “I ask you to call her to apologize immediately and withdraw your comments. If Representative Ocasio-Cortez does not apologize immediately, we will be forced to find alternative means to condemn this unfortunate statement.”
Spokesmen for Ocasio-Cortez, commonly known as AOC, and Pelosi did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The declared “Social Democrat” accused Cruz of being responsible for the violence that disrupted the certification of President Biden’s victory because the Texan opposed Arizona voters, citing federal court rulings extending the registration deadline of voters and insisted on a national audit of electoral fraud.
She tweeted to Cruz Thursday after he offered a branch of alliance against a possible government crackdown on small-dollar investors waging war on hedge funds by buying GameStop shares.
AOC wrote: “I’m happy to work with Republicans on this issue where there are points in common, but I was almost murdered 3 weeks ago so you can choose this issue. Happy working with almost any other GOP that doesn’t try to kill me. In the meantime , if you want to help, you can give up “.
Roy did not specify how Republicans could condemn AOC if she did not feel it.
Roy is known for being an independent, outspoken Republican. He bounced Pelosi’s new metal detectors out of the room of the house, saying, “I will not fulfill.” He also criticized former President Donald Trump for his pre-riot speech on Jan. 6, saying he “deserves a universal condemnation for clearly what in my view was questionable conduct.” But Roy opposed the written indictment and did not join ten House Republicans voting against Trump.
